Terms of Service

The rules for using Chat-Mate.

1. What Chat-Mate does

Chat-Mate is a server-housekeeping Discord bot that helps communities keep channels on-topic and conversations where they belong:

  • Content enforcement with pattern learning. Chat-Mate reads messages in your server to learn what belongs in each channel (keywords, vibes, links, images). It only moves messages automatically once a pattern is mature and confident; before that, moves only happen when a trainer tells it to. Every move is visible and reversible.
  • One-time DM passes. Admins can grant someone a single bot-relayed direct message to another member without opening inboxes or adding friends.
  • Ask-to-DM approvals. Admins can mark a role as "Ask to DM". Members with that role must approve incoming requests โ€” Allow once, Always allow, or Deny โ€” before anyone can message them through the bot. Requests expire after 24 hours.
  • Join-message cleanup scheduler. On a per-server schedule (hourly up to weekly, or never), Chat-Mate can delete Discord's own join notification messages to keep channels tidy.
  • Cleanup tools. /clearbots removes bot messages (all bots, or just Chat-Mate's own) and /clearsystem removes Discord system notices (joins, pins, boosts). Both are moderator-only, always show a confirmation step first, never touch pinned messages, and only bulk-delete messages under 14 days old.

2. Acceptable use

You may use Chat-Mate to manage servers you administer. You may not use it to harass, spam, or harm other users, or to break Discord's Terms of Service. Admins are responsible for the patterns they train and the cleanup schedules they set.

3. Availability and warranty

Chat-Mate is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We aim for reliable service but do not guarantee uninterrupted uptime, and we are not liable for lost messages, missed moderation actions, or any damages arising from use of the bot.

4. Changes

We may update these terms as Chat-Mate evolves. Significant changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date below; continued use of the bot after a change means you accept the updated terms.
